A truly African Getaway. The WILD-RIFT SAFARI

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – NAIROBI – MAASAI MARA

Having been picked up from your hotel after breakfast, depart Nairobi.  Drive to the Masai Mara arriving in time for a late afternoon or early evening game drive, stopping at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint and at Narok town for lunch.  Proceed to Sarova Mara for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 2 – MAASAI MARA

Breakfast will be followed by a full day of game drives within the reserve.  You will have a break at the hippo pool for your picnic lunch.  At the Mara you should expect to see three out of the big five; The elephant, lion and buffalo though luck is essential to track the other two that is rhino and leopard which are very shy and elusive.  A wide variety of antelopes and other plains game can be seen.  Scavengers like hyenas and vultures are a common sight as well.  Return to Sarova Mara lodge for dinner and and overnight stay.

DAY 3 – MASAI MARA

After breakfast depart on a morning game drive in this reserve, which is essentially the northern extension of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park.   Lunch at the lodge.  In the afternoon you have a choice of three activities:- a game drive, a nature walk with our Maasai guides; then finally choice to visit a Masai village to see their nomadic lifestyle at an extra cost payable directly to the Maasai villagers.  All activities end at the lodge by 6.30 pm where you will retire for the night after dinner at Sarova Mara lodge.

DAY 4 – MAaSAI MARA – NAKURU

Early morning pre-breakfast game drive.  After breakfast depart the Mara region for Nakuru for dinner and overnight at the lodge stopping g for lunch enroute to Nakuru.  Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill hotel.

DAY 5 – LAKE NAKURU- LAKE BARINGO

After breakfast, and bird watching,  a drive to lake Baringo one of the two fresh water lakes along the Great Rift Valley.  Lake Baringo supports an enourmous number of birds species and a large number of hippos.  Arrive in Lake Baringo in time for lunch.  After lunch take a one-hour bird watching trip by boat to the crescent island to view hippos too.  At the island you can take excursions (at an extra cost) like a visit to the Njemp’s villages and dancing or visit the local snake farm.  Dinner and overnight at a lodge in Lake Baringo.

DAY 6 – LAKE BOGORIA – TREETOPS

After breakfast, visit Lake Bogoria a shallow soda lake home to a large number of birds and the rare ‘kudu’.  Scalding hot springs and geysers at the southern end of the lakes spurt and steam their alkaline waters.  The bubbling hot springs, hundreds of singing weaverbirds and a million flamingos feeding in the blue waters presents a rate scenic beauty.  Leave for Treetops via Thompson falls to arrive at Outspan Hotel (the base for Treetops) in time for lunch.  The current British Queen was holidaying at the Treetops when she received the news about her fathers’ death and her ascension to the throne.  After lunch you will be transferred to treetops, which is in the Aberdares National Park.  Dinner and overnight at the tree hotel.  Game viewing from your room’s balcony, where you have a fantastic view of the animals that flock the floodlit waterhole and saltlick.

DAY 7  – TREETOPS – SAMBURU

After breakfast, leave for Samburu to arrive the lodge in time for lunch.  Evening game drive provided.  Dinner and overnight at Sarova Shaba lodge.

DAY 8 – SAMBURU

Pre-breakfast, bird watching and game drive.  After breakfast day spent at leisure.  Evening game drive is ideal for spotting the rare lioness that is famous for its unusual ability to adopt various antelopes especially the Oryx.  Dinner and overnight at Sarova Shaba  lodge.

DAY 9 – SAMBURU

After breakfast, go for a morning  game drive.  Rest of the day at leisure.  Dinner and overnight at Sarova Shaba lodge.

DAY 10 – SAMBURU – NAIROBI

After breakfast, have a game drive enroute to Nairobi to arrive in the early afternoon.

Cost as follows:
2 persons – USD. 2200 per person
4 persons – USD. 2090 per person
6 persons – USD. 1860 per person

The above costs includes the following:-
•    Pick up from Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
